As a parent of students in Littleton Public Schools, I feel blessed for the good fortune of being in one of the best districts in Colorado. LPS has a long standing reputation of high performance. A recent accomplishment is their Accreditation with Distinction,* awarded to only 14 school districts out of 178 in Colorado and the only district in the Denver metro area. I have two children who attend elementary school and believe LPS’s accomplishments and performance record reflect their heart-felt commitment to children, progress and improvement.

There have been deep cuts from the state for 3 straight years and in LPS, we have endured much through this process. We’ve witnessed and/or experienced the painful closure of schools, worked tirelessly for the Mill Levy to pass, many schools have ramped up fundraising and all LPS schools have cut back programs and/or dismissed staff.

To further add to this distress, a recent Denver Post article reads: “Colorado Budget projections show deficit of up to $500 million next fiscal year,” and continues to say, “There is wide speculation that budget cuts are likely to once again fall on K-12 education…” (1)

That’s it! This is enough! These state cuts have crossed the line of reasonable and have gone too far. I’m encouraging all LPS citizens to learn more about Prop 103 and how it works to restore revenues back to K-12 and Higher Education. Before though, there are two things worth noting:
1) LPS Mill Levy revenues, if Prop 103 doesn’t pass, are projected to run out in as little as 2 years.
2) The LPS School Board voted unanimously in support of Prop 103.

I am one of the parent volunteers organizing campaign efforts for Prop 103 in the LPS area. Feel free to contact me. Please also join Great Education Colorado’s email network and/or link to the Arapahoe Chapter Facebook page. The larger their network, the louder the voice for kids and education.
